(That’s) All I ask of you

My sister was watching The Phantom of the Opera for her project, and I thought I would join her.  This gave me LSS afterwards.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to keep wishing for a love as sweet as this?  Love is a wonderful emotion.. but when its gone, its an ugly feeling.  I only wish I’m not human enough to keep wanting to fall in love.  Sigh..

I’m sooo not joining that Legion

It was late November of last year (2009) when I first saw the trailer for this movie.  It was to be released by January 2010.  Excited and patiently I waited to see this movie.  2010 arrives and I thought many would fall in line to see this, and for sure, I have to be one of them.

Yesterday, I was so excited to see the movie.  I thought it was going to be big just like Avatar was and 2012.  Those movies definitely swept everyone’s expectations and filled us all with awe and unchartered appreciation for all the effort put into creating them and putting them out for public’s consumption.  Let me tell you, I did not think that my night would end the way it did after seeing Legion.

Legion is defined an archaic word used for “army”, or a large military unit.  The posters display of a beautiful yet ironic image of an angel–well, at least ironic from the common depiction of “angel” in our religious and social knowledge.  I think this was what made it more dramatic.

Which is the real reality?

Avatar

Avatar

In 2154, man was depicted to be suffering from energy crisis on Earth. With man’s extreme need for survival, we turn to a different world that could possibly save us. But salvation in a different manner.

The Avatar research was successful in locating Pandora, a moon of the planet of Polyphemus, some 4.3 light years from Earth. Pandora held massive amounts of lush greens and a very important discovery of the mineral called Unobtanium which, for man was the solution to the energy crisis. Finding the rock was the key, but getting it was not the solution. The Na’vis were the natives of Pandora and they were the link to a missing future.

Jake Sully, had a brother Tom who was a scientist who held a PhD in the Avatar research. Each man had to be linked to a specific hybrid of human and Na’vi genome. Each avatar is very expensive and can only be linked to a specific nervous system. When Tom died, Jake was the next best bet for a possible link to Tom’s avatar. He took on the task, hoping that he could get a fresh start with a new life as soon as the mission was completed. He looked forward to a life with legs, being a paraplegic ex-marine.

His mission was to learn the ways of the Na’vi and hopefully to convince them to relocate in time for the taking over of their troops to extract all possible amounts of the Unobtanium. He was supposed to succeed where the scientists failed. Given that he was the first warrior ever to use an Avatar, the natives gave him favor of learning their ways, aside from the fact that he seemed to be favored by their spirit god Eywa.

He learns their ways and fell in love with the nature and Neytiri. Soon, Jake found himself going against the inhumane ways of acquiring Unobtanium through destruction of the nature of Pandora. As he became one of the Omaticaya (people of Pandora), he vows to help the natives and defend their land. War breaks out and he unites the different clans to save their nature.

The “end” phenomena

Why is man attracted to the unknown?  Why is man strongly drawn into fear?

I have never seen such long queues only to see the fictional movie of the end of days: “2012″.  Its like everybody would love to see the world end!  Such strong hypes for the movie, such strong urge to see it, such strong need to educate oneself.

Its not such a surprise to actually see these things happen.  Why?  Because the things shown in the movie are all nature disasters.  Its not the end of the world, as I see it.  I see man trying to flee the natural course of the earth and the entire Universe.  I see man desperately trying to survive.

The movie was subtitled: “We were warned“.  True.  How far along?  As early as possible.  Then what?  Fear?

Fear not.  There are two things that come about the unknown.  Fear or Act.  I believe we should act upon it.  How?  There are a lot of ways.  Fleeing is not one of them.  If the Universe should take its course that way, then so be it.  I believe that everything happens for a reason.. even our own existence is a reason for everybody else in this world.  What each would do contributes to the entire fate of mankind.  Every bit of good and every bit of evil.

A bit of a flashback

Ondoy (26 September 2009) and the series of typhoons hit the Philippines a couple of weeks ago.  It served us all a catastrophe that most of us will never forget.  Were we warned?  Yes.  What did most of us do?  Fear or Act? more…

When you’re down, there’s no where else to go but UP

When you’re down, there’s no where else to go but UP

If’s there’s one thing that is sticking inside my head right now, that’s it.  That’s how my hubby says it exactly to me when I’m down.  I could almost hear him inside my head… and I finally know the reason why we didn’t get to watch “UP” while he was still around.  God really takes you to places and situations you don’t have control of.. simply because its His way of giving you sermons about life.  All you had to do was go along, be faithful and listen well.

The whole family is in trauma by what is happening.  I’ll save the details to some other time.  I, no matter how devastated I am with the loss of my future, had to take care of those who are still living and have emotions and concerns right now.  I miss them all.  I miss my family for I’ve been too busy preparing for the wedding.  Now, its their time to have me and its my time to have them.

We watched “UP” in 3d (of course in the best 3d moviehouse).  The “UP” craze has already faded, yet I still don’t know its morals.  I don’t usually go around reading synopsis or reviews unless I doubt that my money would be wasted in it.  And so, I get surprised myself.

My sister was laughing the whole time, while I was crying almost the whole time.  They were a couple sharing almost the same dream.  Planning almost the same thing.. thinking almost about the same things.  Ellie was more like me, Carl was more like my hubby.  I usually do the pegging of ideas for the future, and he works along with me.  He’s more silent, I’m more talkative; but we were both very supportive of each other.

I cried and cried while watching the movie.  The difference with Ellie and Carl with Me and JP is that they got married.. that’s all.  I pictured in my head, we’d be lounging around the house and staring up the ceiling of dark blue lit by glow in the dark figures of celestial bodies.  That was how we wanted our room to look like.  This image tore me to pieces.

Orphan

You know how horror movies like to use little kids as object of fears?  This one’s different.  I’m a horror movie buff, and I should know.  From American to Asian horror movies, I’ve seen how kids end up as the scariest instrument of horror.  The Ring, The Grudge and the Tale of Two Sisters amongst Asian horror movies have used kids and/or teenagers to scare us all, but this kid–Esther of the movie Orphan is indeed the most different of all.

You’ll never guess her secret. And, yes that’s true.  I never found out about it towards the last part of the movie, at the very climax of it.

My honey never did like horror movies, but I wanted to watch this movie, and so we agreed to watch G.I. Joe afterwards.  I was really eager to find out what Esther’s secret was.  The movie started out with a vague plot.  Kate, the mom was a rehabilitated alcoholic.  She and her husband John, had two kids.  Their eldest was a boy who was an attention seeker, and youngest was a young deaf girl.  Kate recently lost a child while it was still in her womb.  The family was struggling as both parents are having a hard time coping with their differences and past difficulties. more…

Touched by Forrest

I have been sickly since four days ago.  I missed a day of work, a free Monday breakfast and one day with my honey.

My head was aching badly.  I think it was migraine.   It was the longest streak of migraine attack I’ve ever had in my entire migraine-plagued life.  I grew tired of sleeping all day of that Saturday and Sunday, only to still be feeling as bad come Monday.

Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump

For some apparent reason, after drinking 2 Iron tablets and eating 6 cloud 9 pillow packed chocolates, I felt better.  (Only to believe that it was the Cloud 9 chocolate that really helped me).  I was about to sleep when I saw Forrest Gump on TV.   I jumped from my bed and watched it on TV 5.  I think I like this channel more now, than I did before.  They’ve been picking good movies to air, and they had ultimately lesser commercials than the more prominent channels.

Forrest Gump was a favorite.  One of the few movies I have in my collection.  Since I was in no hurry to get some rest, I wanted to watch it.  I really like that movie and though that it would be nice to see it again.  Watching the movie was just like listening to one big lifestory, though seeing it also through the eyes of the story teller.  Its a one-sided story, but it was simple and beautiful. more…

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 3D

Soon after we were able to watch Monsters vs. Aliens in IMAX, we realized that we really should be bringing the whole family along to experience it.  Unfortunately, the next good movie to watch was Ice Age 3 and it wasn’t available in IMAX.. only in Digital Cinemas.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

The SM Digital Cinemas were short of the real IMAX experience.  Although these specially designed cinemas were able to play 3D movies just like IMAX can, the whole experience was really different.  The key factor was the size of the screen itself.  When you do watch 3D movies in IMAX, you’ll really feel like you’re inside the movie itself and would better appreciate the 3D effects just like you’re standing in the middle of the scene.

Eversince the start of this Ice Age trilogy, my family and I, we loved the characters here.  I still remember Diego’s famous “where’s the baby?” line.  Its a story about how different people could stick with each other and share the same needs with each other.  They were a weird pack alright, but they did manage to survive through a lot of nature’s challenges.

This time, it was really different.  The two earlier Ice Age were good, but this one is the best!  I never stopped laughing!  Though we were amidst a nonchalant crowd, the family along with my fiance and my sister’s boyfriend, the six of us were laughing like there’s no tomorrow!  We were but the noisiest of them all! :D more…

The Taking of Pelham 123 – one of the best of the best movies!

I can’t recount how important every minute was for the movie “The taking of Pelham 123“.  All I can remember was that I didn’t want to take a trip to the comfort room though I needed to go already. ;)

I’m not used to researching about a movie I’m about to watch, unlike my honey who frequently does so.  I wanted to savor the unique, fresh experience for every movie without pegging an expectation of some sort.  Usually, if the movie is wonderful and really intriguing, that’s the time I read more about it.

The taking of Pelham 123

Surely, by the time we saw this movie’s trailer early this year, we’ve been intrigued and excited to see it.  It was a surprise movie date that we had when we watched “The taking of Pelham 123” in SM City North Edsa.  I’m a fan of both John Travolta and Denzel Washington from many of their different movies, like The Bone Collector, Man on Fire, The Siege, Be Cool, Hairspray, Face Off, Grease, and even in the personal favorite Swordfish.  They have both been excellent actors in these famous and Hollywood and history marker movies.  This one is definitely another one of the best!

Tony Scott, who also directed “Man on Fire” and the legendary “Grease“, was the man behind making this movie a success.  Finding inspiration in the Morton Freedgood (aka John Godey)’s novel “The taking of Pelham 123“, he was able to surpass the 1974 version of “The taking of Pelham 123” by forming a powerful casting of characters. more…

Night at the Museum – the Smithsonian Battle

Yester day was a special day for me and my honey. We’ve just celebrated another month of a happy and fulfilling relationship. We decided to go out on a movie date out that night after work. Since we watched Drag me to Hell a weekend earlier, he wanted us to watch something funny.

I’m also a fan of comedic movies. After all, I like Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell and even Ben Stiller himself! Back at the time of 1995, I really fell in love with a wonderful adventure movie entitled “Jumanji“. I remember waiting all day beside the radio to join contests just to win an original copy of “Jumanji“. Til now, I don’t have my own copy yet (I just keep forgetting whenever I’m out to buy DVDs at the mall). I really like adventure movies that are usually feel good movies that have a soft, yet morally touching endings. The almost similar theme of Zathura (2005) was also good. I remember that beautiful twist about loving your own brother.. it was a good one.

These adventure/comedy/feel-good movies are really one of the lightest, easiest movies to watch. It always kind of makes their audience feel better in the end. National Treasure, Tomb Raider, and even the Journey to the Center of the Earth were all beautiful adventure movies. The only difference between Jumanji/Zathura and National Treasure/Journey kind of adventure movies is that the former doesn’t involve too much travelling. Its just like this movie: The night of the museum. more…
